Job Description:

Full-time, 72 hours per pay period. Hours are 6:00am-6:30pm including weekends and holidays.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for providing all forms of respiratory care to all patient populations in a safe and therapeutic manner following established standards and practices. Duties of the RRT may be performed in the hospital setting, at offsite locations, and as a member of the air/ground transport system.

Work schedule requirements: Must be able to meet department needs for shift coverage (day, night, weekend, holidays) and take "on call" shifts.

The registered respiratory therapist must possess the skills necessary to assess the respiratory status and provide care to all types of patients of all ages. They must understand and demonstrate proficiency in all respiratory care clinical and technical skills, and be able to learn and utilize new technology as the state of the art of respiratory care evolves. Refer to Self-Assessment and Orientation Skills Checklists for equipment used, therapies performed, and other skills needed.

When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.

Required Skills

Must be a graduate of a CoARC approved program of Respiratory Care. Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements of the department. Must complete orientations, competency validations, and other in-servicing as required by the department and hospital.

Must have passed the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification Examination for Entry Level Respiratory Therapists to become a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) prior to employment. Within 4 months of employment, must have passed the National Board for Respiratory Care examination to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Must maintain active status with the NBRC.
